You have a long face. (hope you don't mind my getting to the point )
And that's why "shortening" it with some bangs has worked for you. This new rad look is def going to help you get rid of the same ol' bowl looking cut though yet still keep some bangs. I really like the way this long fringe is asymmetrical with, YES, one side longer. Having the length go off on the side will help to widen your face, giving it that width illusion taking away from your length.
Your stylist will know what to do. Probably razor cut the front sides to include these tapered bangs. The bottom shot appears to have just a little feathering done to the bangs to keep them from being too heavy and thus allowing movement. Ears have been cut around and sideburns made deliberate.
I ALWAYS suggest taking the pics with you. Just print out this post that has all these little pics so you only use one sheet. Take it to your stylist. It always helps to have better communication and you will know he/she will be on the same page with you about what you want in your hairstyle!
