Yes, Bill Kaulitz has his hair much smoother and uniform in that pic!

Yet, as you say, it's a good guideline and it's a reminder that it will take a little work when styling your look, however, it will be worth it.

First, go and obtain a chunky layer cut (during or after you grow it out). Apply products. I like to use gel and mousse together for extra hold though there are many others to try. Blow dry upside down for maximum fullness.Use an electric hot comb to straighten out your curls. It can be bought most places a girl would buy a curling iron. Let hair cool, then, take sections, starting with top layer, and back comb (tease) them by spraying section first with hair spray, tease, then lay back while working down the head doing most of the head, at least the top half in sections of back-combed hair. Allow hair spray to completely dry, then finger comb back down a little to where you want it, smoothing the topmost layer with a brush...lightly. It will take some experimenting, but you'll get the hang of it all. Practice will make perfect.
