I just had my hair dyed blonde all over for the first time, from quite a dark brown. Most of the time I intend to go to the hairdressers for top ups, but can not afford to go too often and my hair grows quite fast, so I wondered if anyone has any tips to sometimes lighten the roots so that in between visits it does not look too bad.

I did try Nice n Easy root touch up, the lightest one, but it hardly had any effect at all. So I have now bought some Jerome B peroxide kit and was thinking to use that.

My concern is that if I get any bleach on the previously lightened section, that it will go even lighter and I will end up with a stripe of very light round the top of my head. Has anyone done their own roots and if they have any advice, it would be much appreciated.
