The ceramic ones produce a more even heat and are gentler on your hair.

Never use a flatiron on wet hair, no matter what the product advertises.
The less time heat spends concentrated on your hair the better. Just dry it well first, the flatiron will do its job quickly enough.

I purchased a Conair one with ceramic plates that are about 3" wide It heats up in two minutes. Have had it for about a year now and it is used regularly. Conair makes a good, dependable line of products.
