Keep in mind, layering will thin your hair out more and without body, it just lays flat looking worse than you imagined. If you want layered hair because you like the fuller styles, ask that they be the long layers, no shorter than the bottom of the ears, even for short hair. On longer hair, the shortest layer should be no shorter than the chin.
After a week, preferably two, have them do a body wave. Now communicate with your cosmetologist that he/she is using a perm for fine, fragile hair. IMPORTANT: Instruct them that you want "Porosity Control" applied all over to the wet hair prior to wrapping the Large body wave rods. This product enables even porosity on your hair ensuring that the entire hair shaft drinks up the perm solution evenly.
As with any perm, make sure it is rinsed THOROUGHLY for 5 minutes. Then have them blot the rods CAREFULLY to get all the excess water out of the hair on the rods so it will drink the neutralizer up EVENly. This is why some stylist set their client under the dryer with the rods on.
Every step has to allow even coverage and porosity for great perms results. When perms turn out with uneven results, it is more than likely do to carelessness and not following these important, yet simple rules.
Now you can enjoy those layers with that perm that beefed up your hair. Want real fullness? Curl those layers now that the curl will stay. Or just fluff and wear the messy style. Either way, I would imagine you'll love your hair. Just keep regular trims going and condition those ends only every other day. Have fun!!!! More importantly print this out and take to your stylist! Make sure they follow these instructions.
