Hi there shootingstar,
In all honesty the size of the curling iron is going to depend on your own hair's ability to hold curl. For example, if Nicole's hair holds it pretty well, and I'd start here, use a 1 1/2 to 2" barrel curling iron. Take sections about the same size in width and curl with barrel straight up and down in a vertical position like you want ringlets. Thing is, curl will fall straight down and relax as it isn't being curled tightly; the weight will help it to fall out and relax into the waves you desire. Experiment until you learn what your hair will hold and for how long. When curls cool, shake and finger comb. They will continue to fall out into a larger wave. How much? Will depend on your hair, the humidty and other element factors. Always curl AWAY (back) off the face, then curls can alternate front and back if desired for a more natural look. Nicole has wrapped her shorter (bangs grown out) side piece around the section behind it for hold and appeal. Good luck!
