Do you remember the old frosting caps where you had to pull the hair through the cap with those things that looked like knitting needles? Is this still used at all. I remember that it felt like my mom was pulling my hair out through the cap!

Oh my gosh I totally remember that. The mother of an old boyfriend of mine asked me to help frost her hair. I was completely surprised when she walked out of the bathroom with this cap on with holes in it and what looked to be a crochet hook. Here I was pulling pieces of hair out of this cap and just thinking to myself that this has got to be the weirdest thing to do with your boyfriend's Mom!!

I remember these caps too. I was a little afraid when the knitting needle looking thing came out. I was like what on earth are you going to do with that thing? That was so many years ago. I haven't seen them around in a really long time. I wonder too if they are still used today. I am sure they would have had to come up with a better way to do this.

Yes I do. They never really worked for me because i had really long hair and whatever got pulled thru the holes was from very weird places.
Or when it worked it looked so "programmed" it really fell short. Now almost every teenager has hairdressing qualifications. By the time you're 18 you've been wrestling with haircolor for years. |

Yes, frosting caps are still around and are still widely used. What I remember about this method of high lighting was that the color didn't get all the way to the roots of the hair, but you can a achieve a better way by foiling.
