I had said that it would be better to use lemon juice (diluted) on your hair than "Sun In". I wouldn't say I'd actually recommend it as it will dry your hair out if you use it continually. It's permanent and yet in making your hair lighter, it also makes it susceptible to soaking up other things it may get exposed to, like those Kool Aid colors. LOL
If you already have dark blonde hair, the lemon juice should make it blonder. Any darker and it could go through that orangey stage.
See lots of people, when they lighten their hair, don't realize that it WILL go through that red/reddish orange stage on the way to becoming blonde. It's taking out the pigmentation and in the darker shades are red pigments so it will go through that stage.
When using lemon juice, it is a subtle, slow process. So sitting in the sun one day with lemon juice on darker hair would not be enough time to get to the lighter shades and you may find yourself shampooing and drying hair that has strange red lowlights. I would never recommend the lemon juice on any hair that is past dark blonde.
