Question Any tips for DIY bleached hair roots upkeep

I just had my hair dyed blonde all over for the first time, from quite a dark brown. Most of the time I intend to go to the hairdressers for top ups, but can not afford to go too often and my hair grows quite fast, so I wondered if anyone has any tips to sometimes lighten the roots so that in between visits it does not look too bad.

I did try Nice n Easy root touch up, the lightest one, but it hardly had any effect at all. So I have now bought some Jerome B peroxide kit and was thinking to use that.

My concern is that if I get any bleach on the previously lightened section, that it will go even lighter and I will end up with a stripe of very light round the top of my head. Has anyone done their own roots and if they have any advice, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I would suggest that you be honest and up front with your stylist about your intentions. Using a different product, especially one that is questionably using a stronger strength peroxide can be quite risque. And it's your stylist you will expect to fix whatever damage you have done.

So just tell them that you cannot afford these touch-ups in the salon every time they are needed and that you will be wanting to do them yourself from time to time and ask them what they would suggest. He or she may tell you whether it is Wella, Clairol or whatever product to help you stay in the same family AND they may share the strength of the peroxide whether it is 20 or 40, etc.

Over the counter products are very weak and mild when it comes to bleaching. The market doesn't want consumers using to strong of chemicals. However, Jerome B is salon strength and you will need advice as to how to handle that if you have never used it or have a clue what you're getting into. Mixing a brand name like Jerome B with another brand (already used on your head in salon) CAN have disastrous results. Even colorists have to consult an 800 number for assistance from the manufacturer's when it comes to mixing brands and especially undoing damage that customers can do at home then makes they hair turn green etc.

So just talk to him or her and if they insist that you have to come in for your touch-ups, tell them that you are determined to do it at home, could they please share some helpful info. I know I would personally lose an appointment or two here and there than to lost you totally as a customer and worse, watch you ruin your hair.

I know this isn't the answer you were hoping for, however, it is all I can offer. Techinically you really should stick with what you started with and that was the salon and seriously, you should just let them do it for you. It's worth the money to know your hair will always look its best.
