Gosh, I remember the days when I use to put straight lemon juice in my hair to get that "summer blonde" look. I can't imagine why my hair felt like straw at the end of the summer. It worked real good though!! LOL Did anybody do that, or am I just an odd person. LOL

I confess, I did it too. My mother started it though when I was little. She loved to bleach her hair and I guess she thought it was a way to lighten mine safely. Truth is, while lemon juice is nature's own bleach, it IS juice which is acidic and drying. Since the lemon juice needed the sun to work and the sun is also drying, between the two of them, the whole process is not good for your hair. As we both found out.

My sister did this. She was always really blonde when she was young. When she would lie out in the sun she'd keep her hair wet and then squeeze lemon in it. I don't remember her hair being anything other than soft and beautiful. But that could just be because she was my perfect big sis.

I think lemon juice worked for me a little but the sun always brought out the red in my hair. Not what i wanted, it made my skin look pasty and the ends of my hair too brassy to really blend with my roots.

I have never heard of this lemon juice idea. My hair is naturally light brown with red tones. Do you think it would make my hair blonder or would it bring out the red. However, if it's going to make it feel like straw then I want no part of it.

My parents used to have a house on a lake when I was a kid and we would just lay out and bake ourselves all summer long. And yes I am guilty of adding lemon juice to my hair as well. We also did Sun In too. Oh god those were the days. I can't remember which worked better the lemon juice or the Sun In. Either way we thought it would be cool to go back to school with blond hair like we had spent the summer really fun like Hawaii or Daytona Beach.

I remember Sun in! I think you can still purchase it over the counter! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who use to use lemon juice to lighten my hair. Yes, it does certainly bring back the memories.

I used Sun In one summer. My hair was so much lighter. I hadn't noticed just how different it was until someone videotaped me, and I watched the tape. I decided I didn't like it as well as I thought and haven't used it since.

It is amazing that we are not all bald considering what we did with our hair when we were younger!
I remember when the kinky style was in and I used to braid my hair when it was wet and when it would dry it would look all kinky. Well I liked it so much I tried perming it the same way!! Needless to say, I ended up have to get my hair cut off.
