I have long hair and I always have long layers cut throughout. I told the gal that I feel like even though my hair has layers, it always feels bulky. She told me that she could "thin it out". I agreed and now I've got all these hairs that seem like they don't belong. It's especially evident when I put my hair back in a ponytail, I have these little pieces of hair that stick out, it's not smooth. Am I making any sense? This is going to take me forever for this to grow out!!

You have to realise she assumes you will be gunking it down with product. Each one of those strands will fly up when you are dancing. Even heavy conditioners and balmed up ends will bring the ends down. And then you will want the movement.

Oh yes, you are making sense. I know exactly what has happened. And welcome Karen!!! Sorry to hear about your stray flyaways though. Thinning the hair with thinning shears is a gutsy undertaking. The stylist needs to take into account to not cut the thinned areas too short or anywhere close to the hairline or parts. And yes a ponytail will show them up for sure. A conversation needs to take place between the wearer and the stylist first. And if you have coarse, resistant hair, this method is definitely not for your hair type. The latter may well apply to you Karen. Communication is everything. We should never assume anything from either side of the chair. Make sure you ask questions and that you get complete answers. If not ask more questions when methods are recommended. Am sorry you have this occuring Karen. Until they grow out, a little hair paste or wax will help them to stay fairly calm. Maybe you could avoid ponytails for now unless you're running around the house or gym.

I think I will just have to deal with these short hairs growing out. Like you said, I do believe she cut the hair too close to my scalp, thus making these short hairs stick out when I wear a ponytail. I've never heard of that wax that you're talking about so I'll have to check that out. I have been using hairspray to kind of smooth them down a bit but that doesn't last too long. I've also tried using my son's hair gel and that ends up leaving flakes in my hair. Thanks again, and yes, communication is the key. I will make sure I understand fully what the stylist is doing before I give the okay, but I always figure, they're the professional and know what they're doing.
