I think it depends on the person, and what their hair looks like. Honestly, I don't think there is a hard and fast rule here. Sure, if the woman is in her 80's and her is real long and looks ratty, then goodness, a haircut is needed! For your hair,
dippity do, you should get the opinion of a good friend, a sister, your stylist, anyone whose opinion you trust. Fact is this, if the hair is long and straight and the person wearing this has hanging chins, or dropping, sagging skin anywhere on their face (and I mean really noticeable, not us in a magnifying mirror being overly self critical) then those long strands are going to give the appearance of elongating those sags and bags further. We just don't need to wear our hair, makeup or clothes in a way that accents our flaws.
See I have seen some soft curl hairstyles of medium to longer length on older women that looked great, cause these women took good care of their hair and their skin. So, as I said, it just depends on the hair and the woman's skin and physique.
