Ok I think this guy has a hip style but his clothes kill it. Wouldn't just black or something punk do the job better here? he ends up looking dorky.

I think the point was too look somewhat dorky, because it is an "in" style. It looks like he is somewhat going for a "punky emo nerd" look, for lack of better words.

That jacket wasn't meant to be photographed. It makes my eyes jump. It reminds me of the black and white checked pattern that always looks colored on TV. They both are unflattering to look at on a monitor. It probably looks better in person.

I think he is trying to get everyone not to look at his hair. It worked for me. I think some of the new trends like this one are crazy, but to each his own is what I say.
