A girl in one of my classes a couple years ago told me that she never washed her hair... with shampoo, that is. She rinses it out, but uses no products to wash. She said that the first week or so her hair was greasy, but after that, it was fine. She said her hair was less dry and more manageable.
She had super long, straight hair, and you couldn't tell she never shampooed. Is this crazy, or can it really work? |

That is interesting. I've sometimes just rinsed my hair without washing it, but it always seems the next day it is so oily it's unbearable. I use to have really long hair, and it was such a chore to wash it. I'm interested to hear if anyone has tried this or if/and why it works.

I would think that it would get really oily if you didn't use shampoo to wash it. I know if I don't wash mine and only get it wet for a day it is so oily that I can't stand it. I mean I guess you could save a ton of money by not buying shampoo but I don't think I would want to risk it but not washing my hair on a daily basis. It would drive me crazy and it would feel really gross too.

How does she brush it and how fast does she go through brushes? Scalp health will suffer after a while. I can always tell if there is no shampoo. I might get away with a rinse one day but that is it. My hair just gets this residue and it travels to my roots. I don't want that in my brushes.

The longest I have gone without shampoo is about 2 days at the lake, and then I used some soap and washed my hair with that. But I think it is interesting that she said after a few days it wasn't greasy anymore. Maybe after all the shampoo products finally were totally removed from her hair then the oil distributed itself when she brushed instead of ac***ulating on her scalp.

My mother in law only washes her hair once a week. I know that sounds gross, but she has been doing this for years. She has her hair shampooed and blown out once a week.

Hi everyone,
Stefanie's ex-classmate has posed one interesting subject! I know that the health of one's skin, and this includes your scalp, depends on the cycle of washing and removing dead skin cells etc. I could get technical on this yet will raise this point. What if we just rinsed our bodies off in the shower? The body odor would begin as would the effects and "conditions" of our skin. I can just imagine the odor of that girl's scalp. lol

My MIL does do that backcomb thing. She freaks the kids out when they're over there. My MIL told me one time when she backcombed all of her hair my youngest walked into the bedroom and said, "Grandma, I don't like your hair like that. It's not a good style." She was cracking up. She of course told her what she was doing and my little one just looked at her with a blank stare. Too funny!!
