Default Want layered hair

I really want to layer my hair, but when I have done it before it looks bad. My hair is thin and whispy sometimes. I want the layered look that it is just layered to my face, but it just doesn't turn out right. What should I do?

I understand thin hair, although not too much on the wispy. Do you want the hair around your face to turn in and frame your face?

Keep in mind, layering will thin your hair out more and without body, it just lays flat looking worse than you imagined. If you want layered hair because you like the fuller styles, ask that they be the long layers, no shorter than the bottom of the ears, even for short hair. On longer hair, the shortest layer should be no shorter than the chin.

After a week, preferably two, have them do a body wave. Now communicate with your cosmetologist that he/she is using a perm for fine, fragile hair. IMPORTANT: Instruct them that you want "Porosity Control" applied all over to the wet hair prior to wrapping the Large body wave rods. This product enables even porosity on your hair ensuring that the entire hair shaft drinks up the perm solution evenly.

As with any perm, make sure it is rinsed THOROUGHLY for 5 minutes. Then have them blot the rods CAREFULLY to get all the excess water out of the hair on the rods so it will drink the neutralizer up EVENly. This is why some stylist set their client under the dryer with the rods on.
Every step has to allow even coverage and porosity for great perms results. When perms turn out with uneven results, it is more than likely do to carelessness and not following these important, yet simple rules.

Now you can enjoy those layers with that perm that beefed up your hair. Want real fullness? Curl those layers now that the curl will stay. Or just fluff and wear the messy style. Either way, I would imagine you'll love your hair. Just keep regular trims going and condition those ends only every other day. Have fun!!!! More importantly print this out and take to your stylist! Make sure they follow these instructions.
And if you don't mind, send us a before and after shot??

I am going to have to print these instructions out and keep them for myself. Maybe laminate them and put them in a book. I bet my stylist could do this. I could talk to her about it when I go back for a color retouch.

Crissy,

I should have also asked you if you wanted only the layering around your face or all over?

If you just want your face framed with layering, then tell them so. Tell them only in the front to "frame your face". The perm idea is if you get layering all over and feel it just lays there.

I wanted to post the tips on even perming for anyone who has had a perm that turned out uneven. Sometimes, it is neglect or a rush job that causes uneven results as you can see from what I advised previously.

Oh. LOL! I guess I wasn't paying enough attention. That hardly EVER happens you know. I thought those were general perm instructions. I don't want any more layering than I already have. I'm pretty happy with my cut even though it's not really a style. I have pretty nondescript do-nothing hair. I just want it big. That, of course, only applies to the days I actually want to do anything to it at all. You know how that is.
