My local newspaper on Saturday did an overview of the jumbo-sized September fashion magazines. The "words of wisdom" listed for InStyle are, "You can do anything to your hair if you put egg white and sugar in it."
I don't want to buy the magazine to find out what Jacinda Barrett was talking about. What can egg white and sugar do to benefit my hair? |

That is really weird that you read something on putting egg white and sugar in your hair. I tried to research it online. I found information that you can mix egg white, sugar, and corn flour to remove facial hair.

When I searched online, all I found was that egg whites are suppose to help your hair shine.
I also read that yogurt cleans and softens hair. Honey is apparently a good moisturizer. |

My guess would be that this is going to dry stiff and therefore whatever way you style your hair, it's going to stay that way. After all, beaten egg whites with sugar make that nice meringue on pie which stays right where you put that.
I don't understand this suggestion, however, cause it would cause your hair to tangle badly due to the sugar. You would have to shampoo it out as there would be nothing else you could do to it.

My friend in high school used just plain egg whites. She had that typical 80's big hair style. She put the egg whites only in the front, then blow dried it with a comb and it became really stiff. It actually looked kind of cute on her.

Egg whites and sugar? I've never heard of that before. I would be afraid that I would attract the bees! I suppose it makes sense, egg whites are very sticky so I guess it would work on hair.

I had a friend in high school who wore her hair really big in front. It was a total 80's hairdo. She used a ton of hairspray to get it to stay that way.
Egg yolks have no redeeming value? Everything seems to call for egg whites.

Hmmm? Never heard of it? When I was younger we use to put egg whites in our hair for shine, beer for shine and vinegar for shine. As for the sugar...maybe you would put it on the ends to glue your split ends?
We also use to rinse our hair with tea to add color! |

Boy, using egg whites on your hair? Would you be buying more than a dozen eggs per week to do this? LOL. I would be a little afraid of the whole salmonella thing but I guess you're not eating your hair...

I have used sugar water on my hair when I was first growing my dreadlocks. Nobody told me to, but it seemed to work. My hair was sticky for awhile though. I have never heard of mixing the sugar with egg whites, but it kind of makes since.
