Whenever I pull my hair back in a ponytail I lose all the thickness that it looks like I have when I leave my hair down. How can I make my ponytail appear full?

Until you get used to exactly how you can get this down to a science as they say, you may have to try and try again. Part your hair down the middle from front hairline down to the back of the neck. Next, section your hair from ear to ear crossing over the other parting right where you like to place your ponytail, using clips to hold each sction. Here's where it may get confusing. Unclip one section at a time and part off a triangle shaped section right at the 'crossroads' there where the ponytail will go. You should end up with the four clipped up sections and hair hanging loose in the middle where you place your ponytail. Smooth and brush this loose hair in the middle into a ponytail. Band this hair and you may want to try a thick hair band. Should the end result not look right, you may have to use a regular hair band here. Now you may find you have to go deeper into the sections with your triangle shaped sections on the top two sections. The bottom ones too depending on where you place your ponytail. Once you have banded this 'inside' ponytail', unclip all four sections. Brush and smooth this hair to be banded over the other ponytail. Now band this directly over the other band. This outside band will now seem quite thick and should make your entire ponytail seem fuller. Some have experiemented with braiding the inside ponytail down a couple of inches. Let me know how you made out and if you have any questions where these instructions do not seem clear.

Interesting. I think I get it. Maybe. So the end result is kind of a ponytail inside of a ponytail? I will try it. I will at least try what I think you're trying to explain. Should be fun. Thank you! You are so helpful, Toni.

I think I understand too. I'll have to try it. I really like to pull my hair back since it is just easier to manage that way. I'm learning so much here. It's great to have a sounding board for hair advice.

Here is my secret. i either braid tightly or curl up in a bun my very long hair whe it is almost dry. if I sleep on it then in the morning when i take it down i have max volume and a flip to it. Don't brush this out.

![]() I'm glad you understand what I visualized as a ponytail within a ponytail. I knew you wanted it to look like an ordinary ponytail and so I hope these tips don't seem too time consuming and complicated. I think that it would go quickly once you got the hang of it...oh, sorry, didn't intend to use a pun. I knew the only way to get your ponytail to be thicker was to fill it out on the inside. Let me know how you make out.
