My sister use to do that to her hair back in the 60's. It was popular. Once in awhile I like to do it to make it fuller in the back. I heard that once you rat your hair you need to keep doing it? Is that true? If so why? Does ratting your hair ruin your hair?

I have never heard of rattin gyour hair. Is this the same as teasing your hair? My sister used to tease her hair in the 80s to get the big hair look. It's kind of like back combing. Is this waht you mean?

I'm sorry- Yes teasing your hair. I'm from the north and we use terms differently. Like "bubbler" for drinking fountain or drinking waterfountain and "bag" for sack. LOL
Is it true that this can damage your hair? |

I use to tease my hair in the 80's to get that big hair look. I'm not sure how bad it is for you hair. I don't remember ever having damage from it. I got more split ends and damage to hair from hot rollers and hair spray. Looking back at some of my hairdos from the 80's I can't believe I thought that actually looked good on me.

I don't think I can name one of my friends that didn't tease their hair. I think it was a rule in the 80s that you had to tease your hair. I still see some older women in the salon who get their teased. I don't do it anymore but I don't recall any damage from it. I mean my hair never fell out or anything lol

I never could get the teasing right in the 80s. But my hair was down to my butt and there really was no point. I did have the pouffy bangs, though. And even those I couldn't get teased and sprayed to stay. I don't have the kind of hair that cooperates.

You know I think one of my friends called it "ratting" too. I could never so it right either. I ended up with knots in my hair. I always had to get my sister to do mine and it got on her nerves!
