HELLO cduuffo13 and Welcome!

I'd like to start by letting you know that the direction of your hair follicle determines the bend or kink in your strands when they breakthrough in growth. If you have spiral shaped follicles, your hair will grow into tight ringlet curls, all the way down to possibly having a slight bend giving you only a slight wave. Sometimes, due to pulling and manipulation, CONSTANT hair clipping can cause a slight disturbance beneath the surface a little bit which I think might be the case for you despite it only being once you had it clipped. Usually though if the hair growth is affected, it is due to stress or illness.

Your hair is obviously very coarse. Having the ability to stand up and off the scalp even before it is completely dry indicates this. Am guessing your hair dries very quickly as well as if it never was really wet. Any number of things could be causing this bushy effect when you obtain length. The first things you could ask yourself are: what condition is your running water? Have you switched shampoos? Is there a possibility that stress is affecting your life?

I question all these elements including any moves you may have made where weather has affected your hair as it sounds like your hair could be drying out. Guys do not think of these things, nor do they like to do any primping. And I don't blame you.

As for your fringe, I would suggest a little hair spray aimed at the root area, to withstand a night out. I'm guessing you may be dancing and prespiration may be causing this problem???

As for the bushy look, I think you may need some conditioner on occasion and an important thing would be to make sure you keep your hair trimmed regularly during the growing out process to be sure mismatched layers and split ends are not the culprits. If you are willing, experimenting with the conditioner may be a great save for you. Ordinarily I would suggest a little applied to the ends only. However, if you apply it all over your hair, you may experience a totally different avenue for your hairstyling.

Any idea how you want your hair to look or behave oonce you grow it out. And what, if any, changes occured in your life such as type of water you use, products changes, or climate changes?

Let me know!

what conditioner do you advice me 2 use?

here isa picture of me with my hair styled at home (hard to see)
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...lipboard02.jpg

but, i always have my hair like this when ever i style it. i just gel all of my hair while its wet, rub it everywhere then just flat the sides then spike the fringe and the middle part and somtimes the back. i usually spike it different directions.

and this is the way i would like to keep it, but i just dont like the ay my hair grows when i dont gel it, am due for a hair cut now and i usualy ask for short backa nd sides number 2 on the sides and cut ontop, and also thinned.

anything i should try you people may think of sumthing else to ask for?

thanks

Alright, that gives me an idea. Forget the conditioner then. I was going to suggest that (for the ends only) IF you were wanting to let your hair grow out. So if you find that it is and you want to tame it, put a little bit of any good condtioner.

Since you want to keep it short and spike it, then try some "hair wax". Sounds scary but it's great stuff if you buy the professional products. And remember this: it goes a LONG way since you use Only a little, tiny bit on your hair. It comes in a tube or spray. I personally prefer the spray (not sure where you live, however I like "Paul Mitchell") which I spray it in the palm of my hands, rub hands together and grab the ends of the hair I'm working on, like in your case, the spikes. You have short hair and you won't need hardly any at all on yours since too much will make it seem dirty. And one can experiment with the different kinds of this stuff. You may really like the wax (Paul Mitchell makes this too) type that comes in a tube. It looks like glue that feels sticky yet softens in the warmth of your hands. As I write this, I am thinking that you would like to try this as I know a lot of guys who also use it for spiking. Really holds up too. And so you know, it's not to be afraid of as it will shampoo out with no problems.

And try it to tame down the sides and back of your hair with a little bit of it too. You sound like you definitely have coarse hair that grows straight off your scalp making it difficult to lay down that which you want tamed. The gel is a great idea. Experiment with different name brands each time you buy new gel. There are some things I just can't help encouraging "professional" products for. Styling products to me are a must, although there are also good over-the-counter ones too I will admit. Different people have different criteria and unique hair situations so it's difficult to duplicate and you can't give the same remedy for everyone.

I'm sure that in time others will post here their personal experiences with your same hair type and situation. In the meantime, try the wax, good luck and let me know how you make out!
