Default How?

Does anyone have any idea how I could pull off a style like this? How long would my hair need to be for this style?

Hello looneytoons

Your hair would need to be all-one-length and at least half-way down your back. The longer the better.

Hair is banded in the middle of the back of the head. With head down, facing the floor, wrap hair around in a large circle, pinning down to secure as this is the base. Continue wrapping,"loosely", making circles smaller as you go. This is done just like a layer cake on top of the back of your head. Pin here and there securing layers and the top. Spray with hairspray.

In this style, excess on the top layer (or end) was brought up across the top of the "layers". Strings of beads are used as an accent as were small clips for adornment and fastening.

That's a very interesting style, quite unique. I would have liked to try something like that myself... but my hair is too short right now. Good luck, looneytoons!

I'm searching for a style for my wedding, so I'll definitely be posting to ask how to do it when I found one I like! I never would have been able to figure out the steps as Toni has done!

The formal hairstyle we talked about below could also be done with shorter hair. If you can get your hair into a ponytail, real or artificial type extensions could also be attached from that ponytail and worked as if you have long hair. Beauty supply stores sell real and artifical hair in packages so anyone can experiment on the weekend with their girlfriends. Match up as close to your own hair color, of course!

Have fun.

Thanks, Toni, for posting those directions! I'm growing my hair out now, so hopefully I'll be able to try it out soon! Do you think it will be a problem with my hair being curly? I think I'll just try to straighten first when I try it out.

My guess is that there is some sort of attachment that the hair is wrapped around. That looks like way, way too much hair. I have to agree, that the style is quite different. Kind of reminds me of Miss Frankenstein! (Frankensteen) LOL

LOl, locksofluv, you're right, it does look sort of like the bride of Frankenstein! Not to say it isn't cute. To me it looks like she has VERY, VERY long hair to be able to accomplish this style.

Really long hair and lots of it! I'm surprised it won't hurt her neck with all that weight. I know if I pile my hair on top of my head, after awhile my scalp starts to hurt from the skin being pulled.

Default Hair props

Actually, I think this model has thick hair enabling her to have such a dense, large, spiraling bun that's actually done on the back of her head and not higher. There are props that can be used under thinner hair such as a "hair roll or rat" that would be appropriate for this style. Hair not so thick can still be spiraled, it just wouldn't be so weighted as you all have guessed and it would be hollow in the center.

I've read where people have actually used nylons (pantyhose) rolled up and wrapped their hair around it for fuller looks to their formal styles. Since these are pliable and come in a variety of colors, they can easily be used under hairstyles with hair pinned to assure coverage. Movie stars from decades ago did this all the time. This model could have easily disguised one under her style, who knows?

Buns have been known to have foundations under them for years. Anything from things that look like filter baskets to coffeemakers to chignon doughnuts or better known as a hair rat. You can check out your local beauty supply store and see what hair forms they have.

Here are some interesting links for those of you who love shopping online.
