Hi there Joe!

I know this sounds redundant (at least to some), however, my response is always, take the picture with you! Some of you, guys especially, don't like doing this. However, think about how a pic is worth a thousand words and it always, always, leave no ground for miscommunications.

If you really, really hate this idea. Then simply say you want a regular hair cut, leaving it long in the back, mid-way down neck. Don't trim around ears so neatly, leave a little "hanging over". We know this is stylish, yet traditional barbers like neat and trim. A stylist in a more mod salon may be your better choice. There are lots of uni*** places nowadays. Ask that the top and crown be cut about 1 3/4" - 2" in length. The tricky part is an old-fashioned barber will not understand this next part. If your barber or stylist in up-to-date on hair trends, they will comprehend this request.

Unless you have coarse hair that stands up easily, you should ask for a "texture cut" within the spiked area on top. This will help the hair (especially fine) from wanting to lay down, yet rather sit up like you want.

Products are also good to help with this. A little gel and/or mousse will help hair stand up. Apply a little tiny bit to damp, not wet, hair, running fingers through as it dries naturally or blow dry. Experimenting with the method you use to dry the hair and the products you use are best as everyone's hair is different.

Good luck! and have fun with your new look!!!

Thanks, I think I need to let my hair grow for a few weeks before I can get that done though.
