at this point, i am absolutely lost at what to do with my hair...i think i want to keep the length of my hair, maybe a little shorter, but i don't know how i'd want to style it. Right now, i all just kind of put it downward, and i get this...
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/phot...11500_6060.jpg minus the...interesting...face i'm making... i think my biggest issue is the sides, which i just can't figure out what to do with... any advice whatsoever? |

Hello kyledouglas521,
Welcome and thank you for your questions and pic! It appears that your hair is pretty 'stick straight' or do you encourage it to lie down flat? I would imagine that your hair wants to fall as it does and if it does stick out, here and there, naturally you will flatten it back out. Being cut to all one length (no layers whatsoever) straight hair usually will naturally fall downward like this, especially if the natural growth pattern on the top of your head is fighting you by going in that direction. The weight of all one length prevents your hair from having movement at all. Our hair follicles can be very different from one person to another. Somone with wavy hair has follicles similar to what I like to compare as growing out of "elbow macaroni", forcing hair to grow in "bends". The curlier the hair, the (follicles) elbow macaroni is obviously twisted or spiraled. The shape and severity of these twists or spirals determines how curly the hair results in. Those of us with straight hair have follicles that is like they're growing out of hollow spaghetti noodles. And they have angles there under the scalp that determine which direction your hair shoots out as. People with whorls (cowlicks) have follicles growing in a whirlwind direction, the more severe the whorl, the worse the cowlick. You hair probably has follicles that are straight, pointing towards your face and that's why it grows in a determined flat, straight down your forehead manner. Now do your sides tend to fight and want to grow forward too? Cause IF they do, layering them would only cause the hair to stick out and you'd fight a losing battle trying to comb them back. Have you ever had your hair layered and if so, what did it do? Did it stick out or behave in the direction you combed it? If you 'mess up' your style right now, does it fall right back down or stick out for a while? Let me know the answers to these questions in bold and we'll go from there.
