HEY JohnnyB! WELCOME!!!

How. Well the hair is layered in a chunky way. Not the traditional all over blended layering. There is nothing blended here. The layers are like stacks...picture a layer cake. You have the bottom layer which is the longest, the next layer up is a little shorter, etc., etc., and it goes from there. These "stacks" make it easy to find the shorter layers once dried with volumizing product. Each one can be brought out perpendicular to the head and frozen there with freezing spray, or if the hair is strong enough, other products can be applied near the scalp to help give it a "base". The shortest layers on top stand straight up like a mohawk. Any of these layers can be backbrushed (teased) or sprayed with the freezing spray, but it's all hard on the hair. Hair mud is another great product to use that's less taxing on the hair. This holds up better than any mousse or gel, though those two combined can do the job just fine if the hair is strong to start with!

What hair type do you have? Is it fine? Or is it medium or better? This refers to the thickness of the individual strand which also determines how strong it is. Will it stand up on it's on, especially when short like this on the very top (at part)?

Default Hmmm

So in theory all I have to do is layer the portions of hair so that they lie up on top of each other? I'm not looking for this exact style. It's a little too over the top for me, but I was aiming for that "chunky" texture.

I saw something similar to what I want in an earlier post.

I have a few snaps of my hair that I'm willing to post but they aren't as recent as they should be.

These are within the past year, but my hair is alot longer now and i've cut out all the bleach since then, so it's a simple dark brown. But maybe you can get a general idea of what my hair type is. In the bleached picture, it is somewhat straighthened. In the other picture I had just recently woken up, it was a picture taken early at the breakfast table. As far as the length goes it's about shoulder length. A tad shorter than this picture. And as far as the hair type is concerned and i'm not entirely sure how to determine that but I recall that when I did have shorter hair, at about 2-3 inches, it was rather easy to make it sit straight up.

I'm just looking for a recommendation of some sort. I really like the texture seen in those examples I've showed you, and i'm rather tired of wearing a hat everyday in an attempt to make my hair appear somewhat tidy.

EDIT: I found a somewhat recent picture of my sister and I. This was a few months ago.

Hello Johnny B!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Nice pics btw.

Your hair appears to have some body and medium type texture, from what I can see. It's always best to determine these things in person. You obviously have some curl on your ends and judging by everything I've seen so far, I picture your hair to be just a little "Unruly" if you get the chunky texturized Shag haircut. However, if you are willing to do anything to straighten it, it can and would behave like this pic you researched.

Theodore Lee

Seriously I think you would achieve this look just need it be coerced into a more straight form. Keep in mind if you go to this trouble to straighten it, it will stay that way unless dampness comes along or you go swimming or shampoo again. Guys don't go for the flatirons and this is understandable, especially since your hair is usually much shorter. The solution I suggest is:

Hot Combs.
This will explain them.

Ideas of price, etc.
This is a resource for purchase though you can buy them locally.

This would take seconds to do once your hair is dry, then out the door you go until next shampoo. And if it gets a little messed up, the bedhead style is still in. As long as you have a great haircut, there's no limit to what you can do.

Good luck and let me know what you think.
