Default Male with Wavy Hair! Help!

I'm a 17 year old male and I have slightly wavy hair.
Here are some picture:
http://arch.kimag.es/share/62477525.jpg
http://arch.kimag.es/share/54431429.jpg
(In these pictures I dried my hair a bit with a hair dryer, but it still has some of the wave)
Anyway, I am considering doing a chemical hair straightening at a local beauty salon. I was wondering if it's possible to get it done on my hair length, it's a little over 4 inches long (I just measured it).
Another issues is that I am not sure how I am supposed to treat my hair after doing the procedure. I currently wash my hair every day (don't use any type of gel or spray during the day) with conditioner and shampoo. I'm told that I'm not supposed to wash it every day, but my hair gets very greasy after two days of no washes.
I'm also interested in some of the cons to doing this, and if it's worth it. I want to know the downside to doing it, and if I, with such short hair, should do it.
Basically, I'm just bored with my current hairstyle, and want to try a more emo-ish hairstyle (I like how it looks), but I'm keeping my hair color :P, never seen anyone with red emo hair..
PS: I live in a high-humidity area.

WELCOME TheAce!!!

High humidty. Don't you just hate that! I live in a HH area too. It makes curly hair curlier and straight hair stick out and everyone have frizzies.

I don't know how to break this to you other than just coming right out and saying it. Seriously think that chemically straightening you hair would be a waste of time.
1, I bet it grows fast
2. You hair probably will cut as much as it grows; therefore all waste of time
3. You shouldn't use chemical straightening (relaxers) unless you have serious issues. i.e. exremely nappy, curly hair.
4. They are VERY harsh on hair and will dry it out quickly; especially caucasian hair. Black hair is stronger and can withstand it better. And the person using the product HAS to have experience or you will lose your hair.

So now, that I've scared you to death. LOL I want to suggest this. The emo style will look great on you. Go and buy yourself an electric comb...yes you read that right. (sorry this pic isn't the best...it's just for you to get an idea of what I'm talking about). The heat redefines your hairstyle in the opposite way ladies use curling irons to get curl. You plug it in and in a few moments, you've got the straight hair you want..or you CAN choose to implement a few messy strands...all in a straight way, of course. The back of the comb helps the hair to straight out and down from underneath and rolled under will give you lots of lift OR just be a tool to guide those neat razored points in the directions you want them.

Then I would use Garnier "Shake effect" (which is like gel for dry hair that dries a little stiff so use SPARINGLY) or hair wax or product of choice to "seal" the ends against humidty so no frizz or change will occur from the elements.

Have them show you how the hot comb (electric comb) works in the salon you visit for the haircut. I think you will find it to be easy and a whole lot better approach to your needs! GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I won't be doing the straightening.

The electric comb seems perfect! I can't believe I had never heard of it. I looked in to it a bit and it seems to be just what I needed, I just didn't know it existed. I have one worry though, it's a comb, but can the ends touch my head or are the hot as well? It's mostly curiosity, just so I know how careful I can be, I don't wanna find out the hard way, lol. I'm going to attempt to go to a beauty supply seller to see if they have one, as well as some of that Garnier "Shake Effect", lol.
I'll report back tomorrow. Thanks a lot!

EDIT: I've also heard/read that using things like this could damage hair a bit. I currently use a Shampoo and a Conditioner, should I be using any extra creams, oils or sprays?

EDIT 2: I just bought it and spent around 1 hour with my mother, it's pretty straight now, pretty much how I wanted it. But to preserve it... I wasn't able to find the Fructis "shake effect", could you recommend other alternatives?

Also, should I use a liquid before using the comb? I saw at the place that they sold things for that...

Hi,

Glad you like the effect of the straightening comb.
And after using it and reading the instructions, I suppose by now, you know you shouldn't touch your scalp directly with it. That would hurt! LOL

I would get a "heat protectant". You spray it on your wet or dry hair before using any heat and it helps the ends. Yes of course, the conditioner helps seal in the natural moisture too that can be lost due to heat (and other things). Leave in conditioners (kind that do not get rinsed out) can burn and smoke with heat and that's not a good idea for those using heated appliances.

As for a styling product. Try a little hair wax or hair putty. Look in the store for the different brands. Yes, I like the Garnier products, but surely there is something you can find. It's all a matter of trying what works best for your hair. To save money, I really like advising you check with your stylist and inquire about salon products. In the long run, you save money as these products are used SPARINGLY (remember that!) and you get to buy just the right product the first time instead of buying a lot of trial and error stuff.

Have fun with that comb, just don't have it on your head longer than necessary. AND definitely protect with heat protectant!!!!!

I'm going to buy some heat protector.
I've been meaning to try wax, I'll go look at that "hair putty" as well.
I don't really have a stylist, I have a woman that cuts my hair, but she'll probably just try to sell me her most expensive stuff.

You have egg shaped face i meant that. Emo hairstyles are really have good work with this type of face shape. I am sure that it will get you good look.

That's a compliment bolesregan is giving you. Egg shape is another name for the perfect Oval face shape.
