Default New hairstyle suggestions

I've been trying to decide on a new hairstyle but I'm not really sure what would look good on me. For the past couple of years I've had really short hair like this:

Since late March I have been growing it longer but it has gotten to the point where I really need to do something with it because it looks far too messy and unproportioned, especially at the back. Here are some shots:

I've looked around for some different styles and found these ones which seem pretty good, just a little 'plain' though:

I also found this one of Johnny Depp which I really like but I dont think I have the right type of hair for it, I would also like my hair to be a little bit longer than in this photo.

I also like this one, but again I dont think I have the right type of hair, and would also like mine to be longer than in this shot.

I like the shaggy look some of those have but I'm totally open to any suggestions.

Hey Fury...welcome!

The pics you found are mostly hair that is naturally straight and your hair has natural curl which doesn't mean it's impossible to work with, yet it is a challenge.

First of all, I don't think your hair is so curly you cannot adapt, however, it is not going to be that razor straight like Chace's or that last pic. The Johnny Depp one would probably work well for you. With the proper haircut, your hair may behave differently. I don't know without seeing it and working with it in person.
Ever tried to work with your hair to make it lay flat, etc.? I have given many a guy with curly hair a lot of hope when I've told them about a gadget known as an electric comb. The heat changes the hair's texture and by simply "combing" your hair into the direction you want, it will lose that curl! You may have to run the back of said electric comb down the length of your hair to really straighten it, yet it's a guy's way of dealing with too much body and straightening his hair.

You have to decide how you feel about this electric appliance. Many guys have been really happy to hear of this alternative!

And I think getting your hair cut into some kind of shape will help tremendously too. Having it "just grow" into whatever has to be driving you crazy!

Thanks for the reply. Using an electric comb sounds interesting, do they typically cost much for a decent one? Also, does it usually take a long time to straighten with one at the length my hair is at?

If I wanted to go without straightening my hair are there any styles similar to the Johnny Depp one that you could suggest?

NO, these straightening combs do not cost that much and no, it wouldn't take long at all to straighten your hair out.

comb This is one of the better combs

looks like same comb and you may find a better deal!

You actually roll the back of the comb to go against your hair section as you comb down to use the heat from this to smooth it out. It's as fast as slowly combing down each section would take...front right side, back right side, center, back left side, front left side at about 8-10 seconds each section.

I said I'd have to actually see your hair. Something tells me that if you let it grow out on top like Johhny Depp's and layer from just below the ears, that maybe the weight will help to straighten it up, especially if you get it cut (shaped up out of the the uneven ends it has now) that it may behave better and not be so bulky or wavy. So that would be a style similar right there.

I'll definitely check out those combs!

Just got another question. I'm pretty sure that I eventually want to grow my hair even longer, if I were to get my hair cut in a similar way to that Johnny Depp photo I posted would it be possible for me to grow it out into something like this reasonably easily?

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...1/example5.jpg

Sounds like a stupid question but I honestly have no idea. I'm also not really sure if a longer style like that would suit me but its something I'd like to try out some day.

Definitely can be done Fury. Just use that comb and keep it shaped into the right haircut.

Thanks for the help Toni

I'm going to go to my hairdresser in around a week with that first Johnny Depp photo and go with something similar to that.

Cool. Let me know how you like it. And remember, it's probably NOT going to behave just like you want it at first. Keep in mind your hair has been used to being one way and it almost has to be coerced or trained to follow another style. Give it a shampoo or two at least. If cut right, it will respond quickly enough.
