Default Need Hair Help

Hello everyone,

Every day I treat my hair the same way. I wake up, take a shower, shampoo my hair, dry it off with a towel, and leave. It dries by itself and parts naturally. My guess is that it's about 4 to 5 inches long all around. I generally like my hair, but here's the problem:

I want my hair to look the way it does after I take a nap. When I wake up from sleeping, my hair is straighter, softer, and just looks all around better. I can't figure out exactly why.

What exactly is sleep doing that makes the texture of my hair so much nicer? Is it making my hair greasier? I have no idea.

Is there a product I should use to achieve this look/texture. The thing is, I don't want my hair to be super shiny or stiff. I don't want that "wet" look. Ha Ha as strange as it may sound, I want my hair to look just like it does after I take a nap.

Please help.

Are you talking about the "bedhead" look? (google that ...images...and tell me what you think)

Also, you didn't describe your hair's appearance when you let it air dry every day.

Does your hair seem to be more light and airy when you wake up from nap? Maybe a few little soft bends here and there?

Let me know and we'll take it from there.

First, let me just thank you for replying so quickly.
Thank you.

I apologize for my lack of details in the first post.

I shampoo my hair everyday with Garnier Fructis fortifying shampoo "Daily Care" for normal hair. It's still damp when I finish drying it with a towel, but I just just brush it straight with my fingers, I never comb my hair, and go about my day. As it dries throughout the day it looks: big, puffy, dry, and clumped together.

If I take a nap in the middle of the day, my hair looks infinitely better when I wake up. It appears: thinner, SMOOTHER, and a little greasier. On a few occasions I've had people say they like my hair when they've seen it after I've slept on it. One girl even asked me if I blow dry my hair.

It isn't messy. When I sleep on it, it generally gets straighter and feels very soft. Not stiff like some products might make it.

What I want to do is get this look before I sleep. I probably need to change shampoo, maybe use some products, maybe blow dry my hair, I have no idea. This is why I need your help.

I did google "bedhead".
It seems like everyone in these pictures is applying product to get messy hair.
This isn't what I'm looking for.
I'd like mine to be smooth and fall flat against my head.

Please ask my any questions.
Thanks for you time.

Here is a picture that describes what I'm going for.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

His hair has the EXACT same look that mine does after I sleep on it.
I want this look with a soft and smooth texture.

Default How to Treat your Hair right after shampooing

Well definitely, our hair does look flatter when we lay on it. And yes, some natural oils that are stimulated while you sleep pay a part in this.

I was taught to NEVER take a brush to wet hair (unless it is a blow dry brush and the tangles have already been removed) when you first shampoo it, especially to remove any tangles. Hair stretches when it's wet and therefore, this can cause damage. Combing is recommended at this time, starting from the ends and working up to the top if there were a lot of tangles.

You are not causing a bit of harm by finger combing or finger raking your hair wet or dry. However, I suspect your hair follicles are angled up a little which causes your hair to dry a little off the scalp, shall we say and this is what causes some people to have "poofy" hair naturally.

Foregoing any products, have you ever tried to comb your hair flat before AND DURING the time that it is drying? This would help fight that natural "off the scalp" lift you are getting. This is my first advice to keep your hair as maintenance free as possible. See you would be distributing any natural oils that you are stimulating by combing during the dry time. And I would recommend you get a good brush to use once the hair is dry and then see what happens.

IF, these things are not doing the trick, then you may have to resort to the old blow dry, which takes less time then you think. Problem is, I hope your hair grows fast and you get "regular" trims or else the ends will dry out from all that heat. So use a low setting if you have one.

Hope this helps. btw...that's a great looking style to achieve!!!
