Default What kind of comb?

What kind of comb is best for detangling? I've been using a comb like this Goody comb after I shower forever. Now that I'm going to start combing my conditioner through my hair in the shower, should I use that same kind of comb or something more like this ?

I use a large toothed comb like that too! If I use anything skinnier, it pulls at my hair and gives me the frizzies!

I use a blue comb that looks like a regular comb on one end and on the other end looks like a pick. I picked it up at a drug store really cheap and I love it. The pick end only has 4 or 5 things on it so I can seperate my bangs with it after I put hairspray on it.

I think the comb you showed above looks like a good detangleing comb. I have always been told to make sure it is very wide-toothed so that you don;t cause split-ends.

Hair is very vulnerable when it is wet. Since it stretches easily when wet, we must be very careful how we treat it.

Crissy,

Thank you SO much for this picture. It IS perfect. A large toothed, (wide toothed) comb like this is EXACTly what we all need to use. Unless your hair is only two or three inches long, you need a comb like this to take care of those tangles that are bound to be there post shampooing/swimming. Work from the ends up towards the scalp for tangled hair using this comb to detangle with little to no hair damage.

For those of you with very little to no tangles. we envy you. Just take warning should you start developing more tangles. It is a sign of hair damage/breakage, usually just split ends. Simply keep them trimmed regularly and you'll avoid further hair damage.

And NEVER, never use a brush on wet hair. It can and will cause hair breakage.

Thank you again Crissy!!!

You are welcome SO much, Toni. One more question. Should I use that comb for ALL my wet hair gentle combing or just the conditioner through the hair in the shower combing?

As you've probably already guessed, ALL wet hair should be gently combed. A comb like this is perfect for all of the above.

Breakage is an issue. Half big teeth and half little tteth. As hair smooths out then use the small teeth end. But i never comb my hair wet. Way too much stress on the scalp.

Too much stress on the scalp? Interesting. How are you pulling that much on your hair to affect your scalp? That would really damage your hair.

The reason I comb my hair gently while it's wet is to pull down my bangs. If I don't comb my whole hair, then I have a heck of a time putting back the hairs that came down but shouldn't.

This is an interesting topic. The only reason I can think of that there would be too much stress on the scalp would have to be the pain of hair being pulled too much from tangled hair. And yes, that's stress, the kind that hurts.

This is why I stated below that hair SHOULD BE COMBED WHEN WET. You should NEVER BRUSH WET HAIR.

Trick is, using a wide toothed comb and start on the ends first,
working your way up the hair shaft towards the scalp as you get tangles freed up
.

If you do this method as you should, and you still are having a lot of tangle problems with scalp stress and pain, then your hair is probably damaged.
Any overtangled hair needs attention. The ends will split eventually and if not kept snipped off, that splitting action starts climbing up the hair shaft. The longer you put off getting them snipped off, the higher the damage climbs, therefore, the higher up the snipping must take place.

If anyone out there IS brushing their wet hair, then damage will occur but not to the scalp. More often than not, it causes breakage and damage to the hair strands themselves. And with that breakage comes MORE tangles. And thus the viscous cycle.
