Davines glossy modeling putty

I had my haircut today and my stylist used a product by Davines, it's called Glossy Modeling Putty. I have thick long hair and have it cut in long layers. She took a little bit of the putty in her hands and worked it into the ends. It helped to separate the strands. It worked very well with my hair. I ended up buying it, kind of pricey though, $30 for a little tube but a little goes a long way!!

I'm not familiar with any of Davines products. What's the purpose of the putty?
