Not really inspiring eh?

Hi classico! And I welcome you to the forum!
You're right, the hair color swatches are not very realistic. Yet, it's the best system invented so far. First of all, the hair is synthetic so that the strands are neat, unbroken, strong and holding their shape for many years to come. Real hair would discolor after a while, not to mention break down. I know what you're thinking. Yet, keep in mind, this hair would never get shampooed, cared for nor would it get any TLC like your own.
And the colors seem unrealistic, yet not because they are synthetic strands, it's because they are dyed from an all white state. This is something that's not possible for 98% of hair dye jobs, therefore, hard to match. Yet, a good stylist can get close!
