In this modern take on what appears to be a loose braid at the nape of the neck, the plait is rolled under and pinned for a formal, evening out look. Kate Rusby’s natural curly hair is accentuated with bright, platinum color, which relaxes and defines her waves for a highlighting embellishment.
This modern, frivolous style is an organized mass of back-brushed sections on the top of this blonde style which may look a bit strange to some, however, it is actually quite clever and trendy. Bold statements like these can easily be made by a classy, well toned lady like Kelli Pickler.
Look closely and you’ll see the length of Jessica Motzkus’ style, draping down her back. Her sleek, sedu look is actually the result of what is known as a "half-do", where the top only is brought back to resemble an updo, yet the length is actually left to freefall in whatever status is desired.
Broadway star, Josefina Scaglione, shows us her version of a close to the head updo that twists around in the back and ends up in a swirly bun just along the crown area. This style is alright for her long face shape as it at least doesn’t elongate further with a lot of height on the top.

Today’s hairstyles are versatile and very accepting of just about anything goes. Here Julia Roberts demonstrates a standard mid-range bun that was easily fashioned with a stretchy hair band.
Leighton Meester looks stunning in her natural black tone as it matches her eyes and contrasts beautifully against her skin. Fashioned in a formal design, her highlights of golden brown come to life in wispy tendrils that are separated to adorn like natural curling ribbon.
This stylish updo has all the makings of a reverse half do. With hair pinned up off the neck in the back, thick tendril sections have been left out to be individually, loosely curled, then left undisturbed in this glorious look so appropriate for bare shouldered necklines.
In what seems to be a million tiny long braids, this style on Venus Williams goes from down and dazzling to up and exquisite. Making a grand display in this twist of a bun with adornment, she has a style that looks awesome on the court and one that can be worn easily for a few weeks, though it does take hours to complete.
This messy formal on Miranda Richardson has a combination of a few eras within it. The unkempt style to it is a mark of today’s hair fashion as are the free-falling tendrils in the front while the asymmetry could be the Roaring 1920’s or the whole concept, though not as neat, of Medieval influence.
What a fabulous, loosely designed formal Sophia Bush is modeling here with this low riding updo. To accent her entire look, crisp, well formed ringlets and loose waves contrast each other for a lovely asymmetrical face framing.
