Producer and professional hair stylist, Rachel Zoe, has quite a bit of density in her own hair that allows her to get away with a simple look like this. Waves like these in fine hair would fill the style out very little and not have the impact like it has on Rachel.
Waves like this can be created by rolling up sections of dry hair that has had gel or other product dried in, making rolls the size of desired waves, and clipping in place. Set under a dryer, or use a diffuser on a hand held one, and heat curls completely for at least ten minutes. Allow to completely cool before removing pins, giving hair sections time to free fall, shaking or gently finger combing where necessary. Spritz lightly with spray wax or hairspray.
Using the application of a vertical curl up close to the scalp will result in a finger wave look and a bulk of curl giving a 1940’s retro look like this one on Rachel Zoe.
